In 2024, the University of Michigan (U-M) Medical School rolled out a lab safety awareness contest for research laboratories. A quiz was developed that included questions related to biological and chemical research and addressed frequent and/or high-risk inspection deficiencies and incidents on the medical campus. Prizes were chosen that supported and improved safety in the areas the quiz covered. There will be time for Q&A.

In addition to fungal infections, plants also suffer extensively from bacteria, viruses, and nematodes. A better understanding of the life cycles, infection cycles, and survival structures of all of these organisms will help promote safe handling, research, and disposal of these highly destructive pathogens.
