MABioN is proud to offer a webinar discussing the use of training methods for building safety culture
There has been recent emphasis on the importance of creating safety cultures for university campuses and research institutions. This has brought much needed awareness to the issue, but as with many new ideas, there is minimal information on how to develop and implement a safety culture. We aim to share our process of transitioning from a compliance-focused to a culture-focused biosafety program to aid others in developing their own system. We have explored and chosen several key tools for implementation including Microsoft Sway and other online training platforms as well as the research management platform, BioRAFT. These tools are used along with our 5-point framework that focuses on building relationships, adult learning theories, mobile-friendly training modules, measuring and tracking progress, and maximizing the value of our program offerings for researchers and the university. This framework has allowed us to identify new capabilities, redefine our roles as biosafety professionals, and mobilize our technology and ourselves as we develop a strong presence on campus and in individual labs.
