Congratulations to our fellow member Margaret Juergensmeyer, Ph.D., RBP who accepted the Biosafety Specialist position at Kansas State University

Dr. Juergensmeyer served as Biosafety Officer at the Institute for Food Safety and Health for 8 years. In 2008, she accepted this position after serving part-time for several months.  She was originally hired to oversee completion of the IFSH BSL-3 pilot plant, which included development of a Select Agent program.  Her expertise in safety enabled research to be performed using high volumes of pathogens in food matrices, including 150 lbs of peanut butter containing Salmonella, 600 gallons of produce wash water containing E. coli, Salmonella, and/or Listeria, and 60+ gallons of milk containing ricin or B. anthracis.  She has presented in several MABioN and ABSA conferences with titles ranging from “Can I Push You Off A Ladder Tomorrow?” to “CPR, AED, and BSL-3.”

We wish her best of luck for this new position.
