Open position: Biosafety/Biocontainment Manager @ University of Wyoming

The position serves as Biosafety/Biocontainment Manager within the Department of Veterinary Sciences and Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory (WSVL), working with the UW Biosafety Specialist and WSVL Director in developing, implementing and managing a comprehensive Biosafety program, including training, record keeping, and operations in support of the UW Biocontainment Facility (BSL-3).
Job Description:
Primary duties are to the biosafety program and Select Agent Program and include, but are not limited to, maintaining detailed records of Select Agent related activities, laboratory-based physical inventory of select agent material, transfer of select agents, and performing personnel related and other duties in relation to the FSAP Bio-suitability program. Serves as primary point of contact and liaison with maintenance and service providers to maintain critical building systems and equipment essential for safe operations.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree or greater in microbiology, virology, molecular biology, public health, or a closely related field with a minimum of 5 years’ biological safety management experience in a research environment.
Experience and Training: Must meet program requirements for access to Tier 1 Biological Select Agents and Toxins (BSAT), including ability to undergo and maintain a favorable background investigation and National Select Agent Registration security risk assessment. Must be able to be respirator fit tested and able/willing to work for extended periods in full PPE including a Tyvek suit with an N 95 respirator or a PAPR.
Desired Qualifications:
Minimum education with professional certification (Certified Biological Safety Professional, Registered Biosafety Professional).
Federal Select Agent program and biosafety level 3 laboratory experience preferred. Professional certification (Certified Biological Safety Professional, Registered Biosafety Professional) preferred.
